The Mat is great for introducing the fundamental principles of Pilates and for strengthening of the core and local stabilizer muscles. It helps to realign imbalances in the body with low impact exercises, easing stress on the spine and teaching you how to hold your body in ideal postural alignment.
Many people find the mat exercises are more challenging than apparatus classes as you have to rely on your own body and core to find your alignment and balance.
The exercises focus on functional strength and restoring mobility in the body, agility in the extremities, balance, flexibility, core stabilization and correct breath and movement patterns.
Props such as fitness circles, thera/flex bands, & flex balls, and weights are often included to assist in alignment and in strength training.
Mat Classes are level specific from beginner to Intermediate & Advanced and are conducted in Private, Semi-Private, and Small Group sessions.
